Inspections – State + DOT

Stay on the Road with

Timely State and DOT Inspections

North Carolina takes roadway safety seriously. That’s why the state requires all personal vehicles to be inspected during vehicle registration. The Department of Transportation (DOT) also takes the same approach for commercial vehicles to help ensure everyone stays safe on their travels.

At Whitley Automotive, we’re here to help you breeze through both state and DOT inspections. Just bring your personal or commercial vehicles to us for a thorough look-over and to stay on the right side of the law.

North Carolina State vs. DOT Inspections

North Carolina state inspections are for personal vehicles, while DOT inspections are for commercial trucks. The state inspection process is the same for all regular trucks, vans, and cars, including hybrids.

DOT inspections vary depending on the type of commercial truck you drive and may include the following:

• Vehicle-Only Inspection
• Walk-Around Driver/Vehicle Inspection
• North American Standard Inspection

At our shop, we are trained to complete all the state and DOT inspection services you may need for your vehicle. Just let us know what you’re driving, and we’ll schedule you for an inspection.

Going on a long trip anytime soon? Ask about our pre-trip inspection services. We also offer pre-purchase inspections to help you find a great vehicle to buy.

When to Get State and DOT Inspections in North Carolina

Whether you pilot a commercial rig or just your daily driver, you’ll need to have your inspections performed annually. In fact, you need to complete the inspection before updating your registration for the year. Otherwise, you’ll get denied the chance to register and have to head back out the door to get it done.

To save you time, we’re here to complete your state and DOT inspections on schedule. We’ll even help you keep track of when to come in and give you a call when it’s time to get through the doors. That way, you’ll be ready to renew your registration and quickly move on with your day.

When you bring your personal vehicle to our shop for an inspection, our team will help you get cozy in the waiting room or hop on the complimentary shuttle for a trip around town. Then, we’ll bring your vehicle in for a thorough inspection from nose to tail.

During that process, we’ll look over your vehicle’s:

Headlights • Turn signals • Taillights • Mirrors
• Wipers • Brakes • Tires • Steering parts • Exhaust

If your vehicle has tinted windows, we’ll also confirm that they’re in spec. Depending on where your vehicle is registered, we may also complete an emissions inspection to verify it’s running at peak efficiency.

The DOT inspection follows much of the same formula, allowing our team to confirm that your commercial vehicle is in safe operating condition. We always follow all the necessary steps to determine if your vehicle passes or fails the inspection.

Sometimes, you may need maintenance or repair services completed before your vehicle passes inspection. When that happens, we’ll let you know just what to do to ensure your car, truck, or van can get a passing grade.
